Hi,

Having a few problems recently my partners PC is running WIN98SE on her
computer and the last couple of pieces of software my partner has tried to
install has failed. The two pieces of oftware are the download manager
provided by fileplanet and the latest world of warcraft patch. The error
produced by file planets DM is "The Installer must be run under an account
with Aministrator Access", The wow patch produces a similar message, but it
takes about 40 minutes to run thru the patch and THEN it fails =( so I havent
recorded that error.

Confused because I didnt think admin rights were an issue on 98, I have
tried switchign network settings around, chaning to microsoft family logon,
reinstallinclients et cetera but that has had no result. Have played with
the users option in control panel but I havent seen anything that looks like
it is related.

Can anyone help please?

Re: Administrator Access??

First would be to ask has the system been updated fully? This issue hasn't
popped up in awhile.

Second, file planet's download manager is, ah, invasive,,,,

Warcraft no longer works with Win98. There is a workaround. Copy &
paste from WoW forum follows. It works, WinExplorer may be cranky
about views after the kernel patch.

1) Open "World of Warcraft\Patches\WoW-2.2.3-to-2.3.0-enUS-Win-patch"
directory. Rename BNUpdate.exe into BNUpdate_new.exe

2) Copy previous BNUpdate.exe from "World of
Warcraft\Patches\WoW-2.1.3-to-2.2.0-enUS-Win-patch" directory or
download it from my web site at
http://wom.multimedia.ru/wow/BNUpdate.exe until Blizzard provide any
official links about where you can download that file.

3) Run previous BNUpdate.exe from your "World of
Warcraft\Patches\WoW-2.2.3-to-2.3.0-enUS-Win-patch" directory.

4) If you will try to launch WoW after that you will see missing
export KERNEL32DLL:Openthread dialog window many people mention here
before. To fix that problem you must install new kerner32.dll

To install new kernel32 you must do following:

1) Download the latest version of unicows.exe (1.1.3790.0) for Windows
95, 98, and Me Systems from Microsoft web site at
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=73BA7BD7-ED06
-4F0D-80A4-2A7EEAEE17E2&displaylang=en or from my web site at
http://wom.multimedia.ru/wow/unicows.exe
Make certain you check the version of the unicows.dll file you will be
adding.

2) Run unicows.exe and unpack it in some temporary directory.

3) Copy unicows.dll and unicows.pdb from your temporary directory into
your <Windows 98>/System directory.

4) Download new kernel from
http://x86.neostrada.pl/files/KernelEx032a.zip or from my web site at
http://wom.multimedia.ru/wow/KernelEx032a.zip

5) Extract KernelEx032a.zip into your temporary directory.

6) Run KernelEx.exe from your temporary directory.

7) Reboot your computer when you will see such dialog showed by
KernelEx.exe application.
