I'm cross-posting this to the Win98 General Discussion group, since this
Windows Updates group is not well attended. The General Discussion group
still has a decent number of folks attending.

Are you referring to log off or are you actually referring to shut down.

IF it is Log Off:

Have you or anyone installed *user policies* on this computer?

Are there other users already configured to change to, and have you cheched
that they have not been corrupted?

Have you installed something like tweakui and/or otherwise disabled the
ability to log off a user?

Is this log off issue related to networking [was or is this computer part
of a network] or Internet connection?

IF none of the above are applicable: is what you are referring to the LOG
ON screen that can appear {on a properly configured computer} when a USER
logs off, and this is what is not appearing?

IF SO, are there any errors showing or appearing in the logs which you
might have?

------

IF this is actually a Shut Down issue:

Is this a new installation of the OS?

Have all the updates been applied?

Have you checked whether you need the shutdown supplements to Win9X or
whether they may have been corrupted?

IF this a recently new occurance in an old established OS and none of the
above apply;

Have you run anti-Spyware, anti-Virus checks upon the computer?

What Anti-V and Spyware programs are you using?

What firewall are you running?
