How to install Win2000 on e: after installing XP64 on c:

I have XP64 installed on my c: partition. I want to install win2000 on my e:
partition, which is a 30GB ntfs partition. I did so, and 3/4 through the
install it locked up. I rebooted, and it was unable to continue the install.
So, I booted back to XP, and much to my surprise, I get a Win2000 could not
start error. My boot.ini seems to be intact. As near as I can tell, the
Win2000 install to e: wiped my XP install on c:. Is this a known issue with
win2000? Was I just lucky (un)? I'm thinking I should install Win2000 first,
then XP.

Problem solved - Win2000 didn't touch XP, but it *did* overwrite ntldr.
Fortunately, I had a backup copy from my XP install.

Panic averted. So, before I break something LOL. Is there any reason I can't
do a Win2000 install to e: after doing an XP install to c:?

Sorry - I deleted it along with ntldr, and restored them. That fixed the
problem, fortunately.

I did get it working, but it's not very stable, and it appears there are no
Win2000 drivers for my graphics card - ATI 3850. Plus in order to get XP to
boot, I have to swap out the ntldr file for the xp version. Then to go into
win2000, I have to swap in the Win2k version LOL. This just isn't right. I'm
about to write this off as a bad idea, it's getting to the point where it's
more trouble then it's worth.

Any ideas how to get Win2000 to use an ATI 3850? None of the drivers I've
found so far will work - Windows won't install them.

You didn't answer. There's no need to swap the older versions of boot sector
files. You're probably out of luck on the driver.

Sorry..too many threads...wasn't sure what I was asked. I think you asked
hard drive size. It is 160GB, and my second is 750GB. I installed Win2000 on
a 30GB partition on the 160GB drive, but since it did not span the ~137GB
boundary, it worked find. I had to patch it to SP4 and make the registry
tweak to get it to recognize my bigger partitions, but once I did that it is
working fine.

And I discovered that while XP won't work with the ntldr file that Win2000
setup left behind, Win2000 actually does work with the XP version. So, no
swapping ntldr files <whew!>.

The only holdup is video drivers. I have a working driver for the onboard
Ati 1250, but it's not very stable and tends to lock up from time to time.
Diamond's website says that the 3850 card supports Win2000, but the disk
that came with the card doesn't have any Win2k drivers on it. And their
online tech support registration has been broken for a month. My warm fuzzy
about Diamond is fading fast. Looks like I make a phone call to them
tomorrow :)
