Hello all,
We have a Windows 2003 Domain (non R2) with about 250 end users. The users
all have roaming profiles. We use Group Policy to provide a consistent
desktop accross all machines. Every once in a while we will have a random
user who recieves an Active Desktop Recovery error and the wall paper we push
is replaced with the white background and annoy text stating that there has
been an Active Desktop Error. If you push the button to attempt to recover
the desktop, you receive a scripting error.
In the past, I would correct this by disabling the GPO, connect to the
user's computer and delete the desktop.htt file from C:\documents and
settings\username\application data\microsoft\internet explorer folder. I
would then delete the desktop.htt file from the same location in the copy of
thier profile on the server. Have them log off and log back on and thier
desktop would return to normal. I would then re-enable the desktop GPO and
everything would be fine.
I have one user where the above works until I re-enable the policy. If I
re-enable the GPO, the next time she logs in she recieves the Active Desktop
Recovery error again. I know this issue has something to do with the GPO we
have in place, but am not sure what to do about it.
Following are the settings in the GPO and the only event recieved in the
application log on the problem machine:
