It's incredible really how gullible some people can be. Someone,
somewhere, posted something about being able to get Vista SP1.
And you have no idea how many posts I've read in the past hour of just
how many people have downloaded this "SP1", and are experiencing
problems! And every one of those posts said they downloaded "SP1" from
abc or xyz.
The solution? DON'T download these phoney copies of SP1. They do not
come from Microsoft, and should thus be considered suspect. Microsoft
hasn't even officially release the Vista SP1 RC (Release Candidate) to
public review yet (due this week)!
Unless the download is directly from Microsoft or an unpatched Windows
Update, then you are setting yourself up for trouble, because you could
be downloading a BETA of SP1, or something that could open your Vista
computer to more problems than you'll be solving.
If a website provides a link that takes you to Microsoft, which in turn
provides the actual download, then ok, it could be considered safe, but
that won't happen for a while, because the real Vista SP1 is only going
to be released for download in the first quarter of 2008.
