Oh-kay so to begin with, I've gotten to the point on my list where I'm planning on buying a camera. Router and HDD checked off - two birds with one stone :)

Now, it's probably not a good idea to start off with a DSLR/Bridge camera but I'm relatively knowledgeable in the area and, in all honesty, I can't be doing with compacts - they're just too... compact. I like something I can grab hold of!

Now, I've made my decision. Almost. This is where you guys come in ;)

Contestant #1

Fujifilm Finepix S5700 - £102

Pros:
  • 7.1MP
  • "Real Photo Technology"
  • 10x Optical Zoom
  • 2.5" display
  • Accepts SD/xD/SDHC (I already have a pile of SD cards, so SD is a big plus, compared to contenter #2)
  • 3200iso (but according to photos on trustedreviews; anything 1600+ is noisy as hell)
  • Video out
  • Compact (ish)
  • Pretty light
Cons
  • Doesn't use SuperCCD
  • Doesn't have barrel focus/zoom (I prefer it to the twisty-thing)
  • Looks a little cramped
Contestant #2

Fujifilm Finepix s6500fd - £149

Pros:
  • Face Detection - not something I'm particularly interested in, but it has it
  • 6.3MP
  • Super CCD
  • 2.5" LCD
  • 3200ISO (less noisy images, according to trustedreviews test-shots
  • Video out
  • Bigger
Cons:
  • Larger, less portable?
  • More expensive
  • Only accepts xD cards, which I have an abundance of, and I can get a 4GB SDHC card for less than the price of a 2GB xD card
  • Heavier - almost 2x as heavy as the s5700 (but might this be a pro - less movement/steadier hand when taking shots)
I'm not really going to be shooting in low light without flash, so perhaps ISO isn't that much of a problem. I want something I can quite literally take everywhere with me and snap a shot of anything that interests me. I like bulk - something I can get hold of, and I'm leaning towards the s6500fd, because of the barrel controls. Of course, the 5700 has more MP, but whats .8mp when all I want to do is take a few decent quality snaps?

I also want to use it for more formal events - I've become quite the photographer (once I've comandeered a decent camera) at events with family, so I also want something with really good quality for when the family wants to have a look.

Anybody own either of these cameras? I really think I'll go for the s6500fd, but since I wont be swinging for either side for about a month (while I accumilate the cash :)) I want to see what you guys (and gals) think of both of them.

TIA
