Standards would be AdAware and SpyBot Search and Destroy. AdAware's newest
version does not install in 98, so one would need the older version with
updates.
Depending upon what you're intending to uninstall, you may need a specialty
remover.

If you can indicate what these issues are, the group might be better able
to advise you.

Free tool to remove AdWare & Spyware

I have a friend running Win98 whose machine has slowed to a crawl. I
got a bit more speed by getting rid of a huge number of temp files as
well as removing Incredimail. Regcleaner did a good job of fixing the
registry but the other programs that I downloaded would scan but not
clean the AdWare/Spyware. Are there any good -free programs
available?

Start -> Run -> type msconfig (then hit enter)

Click the startup tab (on the far right).

Look at the items with a checkbox in them. Ignore Scanregistry,
loadpowerprofile. For everything else, do a google search on it and
then determine if it's something the system needs to be running.

Also, how much memory does the system have, and when was the last time
the hard drive was checked for errors, or de-fragged?

Try the free version of SuperAntiSpyware .

I use the paid version but the free version is just as powerful in
recognizing and eliminating spyware and adware.
The free version is on-demand only and you need to do manual updates.
