I have recently obtained a MCE Remote control for Microsoft Windows XP Media
Center 2005.

I chose it because the reviews say that it does work with 64 bit Vista
ultimate, so 64 bit drivers must exist.

Unfortunately it is not being recognised by 64 bit XP Pro. Does anyone know
of anywhere that I can download the 64 bit drivers that were written for
Vista? Or which files I need to extract from a Vista 64 source CD to install
on XP Pro 64?

Thanks for any assistance

Re: Drivers Search

Not sure if you have an eHome (IR) receiver to receive the input
from the MCE remote as you mention only obtaining the remote.

Vista x64 has drivers in box to support these receivers. Vista would
detect a USB receiver.

A few machines have embedded eHome type receivers.

Can you be more specific?

Re: Drivers Search

Thanks for getting back so quickly. Yes, I do have the eHome IR Tranceiver.
and yes 64 bit XP pro does see it when the hardware wizard is run. However it
fails to install with the message:-

"The hardware cannot be installed because the wizard cannot find the
necessary software".

So I am looking for the correct drivers to make the hardware work with XP
Pro 64. I know it is supposed to work with Vista 64, so the drivers must
exist.

Re: Drivers Search

Apparently Microsoft has opted to included the drivers in
the installation media, but not separately. Using Google to
search the web indicates the drivers are in Vista, and a
couple of posts about needing to extract the driver .cab
from the MCE 2005 disc to re-install the driver.

Re: Drivers Search

What do you intend to do with the remote on XP x64 (assuming you can
find an unsupported driver)? Media Center is not included on XP x64
so I am curious as to where you are going with this project.

Re: Drivers Search

Thanks, If I'm reading you correctly, what I need to do is get hold of a
Vista 64 bit ultimate Cd, search for a drivers.cab file, extract it onto my
system and then point the hardware wizard at it. Sounds like a plan.

Re: Drivers Search

Now that most of my music collection is on my computer, I'm looking to scrap
my Hi-Fi, so all I need is minimal control of windows media player start,
stop, change volume change track and that's about it. OK, I may have to hack
the API interface a bit, I can do that, but I can't write a driver from
scratch.

Re: Drivers Search

It's not that simple. The installation DVD for Vista is
constructed differently than previous version. You would
have to install Vista x64 and then see if you can locate the
files that could be use to install in Win x64.

However, doing as above may well not solve your problem.
There are a multitude of files that are MCE specific and you
may not be any farther ahead with just the drive than you
are now.

Re: Drivers Search

After 4 years of MCE2005 nightmares and unsturdy OS with it installed I have
thrown lots of dollars at my media server and am using MediaPortal on quad
core processor xp64 OS and 4 gig ram and 4 striped sata 2 disk drives.
MediaPortal supports the ehom k/board and mouse beautifully (better then
within MCE2005) within xp pro however not in xp64. As a side note I hate the
mouse on this keyboard-absolute crap.
So I need 64 bit drivers for the ehime kb mouse otherwise I have completely
scrapped mce2005 kb mouse and pc jsut to get a sturdy media center.
What ajoke

Re: Drivers Search

you should have checked the Microsoft hardware support site first:

"Remote Keyboard for Windows® XP Media Center Edition requires
Microsoft Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005 or Windows® Vista®
Home Premium or Ultimate. Earlier Media Center Edition versions are
not supported.

If you are using Microsoft Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005,
you must also install all the available Media Center updates from:
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com for full functionality."

there are no drivers for XP x64

Re: Drivers Search

And I suppose I should never have purchased MCE2005 years ago either. What
with so little Microsoft support going forward and little to no fluid
functionality this has been yet another lesson in "Dont buy Microsoft
anything until at least service pack 3" well there isnt a service pack 3 and
there will never be one, yet Microsoft had the audacity to launch this half
baked product, take my money, and drop the whole support going forward after
Vista got put on the table. Sorry Barb but $1700 later spent on MCE2005 and I
aint all that happy. Too many quirky problems with hardware that IS on the
hardware list. No stability in dual tuners. No codec support for anything
apart from crappy old proprietory microsoft codecs. Slowwww large music
directories refresh, watch the rotating icon for 3-5 minutes on many
occasions. Nearly double specked everything on the hardware compatibility
list and still no joy EVER. It has been installed on fresh hard drives and
new ram and every other possibility known to mankind that could make it fail.
Its all about coding and that said patch on patch on patch on patch all the
way from Windows 3.11 doesnt cut it.
Hence I decided to go grunt and see how Media Portal stacked up. Their beta
is already kicking the MCE2005 machine in the butt big time.
This wasnt an issue with Microsoft MCE keyboard or mouse it was an issue
with the whoile shooting match. I understand that there is no driver support
in XP x64 and probably never will be. Just thought that maybe for once there
was someone out there who knew how to do it. See ya!

PS. Sorry for the long winded spew above but I am less than a happy camper
with Microsoft and rightly so. An entire ficticious trillion dollar tech
industry has been created on the back of poor OS roll outs by Microsoft.
Thanks for the fast reply at any rate.
