A Windows Server 2003 TS must run legacy applications.
To let legacy applications work I was requested to change the protection of
some registry keys (mainly in HKCR) to give full control to some users.
After applying the changes the TS server is getting really slow, so that to
launch an application I need 15 minutes.
The system is slow either while working from the console (as local
Administrator) or from a RDP session.
Using Process Explorer (by Sysinternals) it looks that explorer.exe is the
critical component, either launched from the console or laounched by
applications browsing the file system to open files.
How can I perform further troubleshooting?
I know that changing protections in registry is a "normal" action to let
legacy applications run: is there any guideline to avoid possible problems?
