New remote desktop connection client - buggy?

I download Microsoft's new RDC client and I'm having difficulty with it. It
seems to pause at times and sometimes won't get me logged in properly. I'm
a little unsure about my server at present and that's really all I'm
attaching to at the moment (over the LAN), so I can't be sure if it's the
server or the new version of RDC. Can anyone tell me if they have seen a
degradation in the quality of RDC with this new version?

Thanks,

Russell Campbell

What do you mean with "new"? 6.0? 6.1 beta?
Which OS are you running on the client and the server?

No, no, not the beta. Don't have time to fool with that. 6.0. This is on
WinXP SP2 with all updates applied (of which, RDC 6 was one of them).

Re: New remote desktop connection client - buggy?

I haven't noticed any problems with 6.0. But if you only connect to
W2K and 2003 servers, there's not much gain either, so you could
just uninstall it and go back to version 5.x
Would be interesting to know if the problem disappears then. If it
doesn't, you know that there's some sort of problem with your
server or the connection.

Re: New remote desktop connection client - buggy?

Well . . . another variable . . . my router died on my this evening. So it
also could have been the router going through its death throws prior to its
final descent into oblivion (dern thing was only about 9 months old). I'll
just have to keep my eye on this. Thank you for your responses.

Re: New remote desktop connection client - buggy?

Even with a new router now installed, I still get strange behavior. I was
just performing a copy of data from one drive to another. I moved the
"Copying . . ." dialog out of the way. It did an outline drag to the place
I was moving it to, but then the "Copying . . ." window did not move. It
seemed to pause the copying (or screen refreshes weren't coming over), so
the "Copying . . ." window stayed where it was and appeared as if it had
hung up. But I waited it out, having seen this since installed the 6.0
version, and about 25 to 30 seconds later the "Copying . . ." window
suddenly jumped to where I'd moved it and the copying seemed to start up
again. I think I'm going to move back to the previous version since this
new version has given me troubles in other ways as well.
