I did have two running laptop systems with Vista and Mandriva Linux
installed.
All was great until I decided to update Visa via windows update.
Unfortunately, I had no idea what bitlocker was and thought I will
just install all the extra stuff no problem. I have Vista Ultimate
Edition installed. I knew nothing about bitlocker until the reboot. It
changed the bootloader (i was using Grub) I reinstalled the grub
bootloader and Vista is now screwed I tried to delete Vista and start
again but no I am now unable to get any installations running at all as
it simply says that Vista cannot find a useable system volume on the
disk.
I have a 50gb partition on the beginning of disk but I can't use it!!

Anyone have any idea how to fix this, I am desperate; they are presents
for my boys for xmas!!
Cheers,
Andy

You probably need a bootable utility on CD like Acronis; then wipe that
disk, reformat it to ONE partition, and install Vista there. Or let Vista
format it (better).

Put your other OS's on a different physical drive. Whenever you install
those other OS's, be sure to shutdown and unplug the Vista drive beforehand.

Works for me to leave Vista unmolested; I've got Ubuntu and XP on the other
drive; not a single problem yet despite: fdisk /mbr, countless times wiping
away various installs of Linux, resizing, reformattting, activating various
partitions, all the while without damaging XP in the least.

That way, Vista is always there if you need an OS that works and the other
drive goes blooey on you. And if you install your utility to Vista, you can
work your partition magic from within it (faster).
