Hi There,

I'm running a TS Licensing server on a member server (Windows 2003 SP2 EE R2
w32) in Domain/Workgroup mode, the TS Licensing server is populated thru GPO,
the TS server is activated, 100 licenses were installed but still cannot
serve CAL token's...

In EV I have this error message:

Event ID: 8
Failed to synchronize registered license pack with one or more servers, will
retry later.

Please help !

Thx,
Didier

What is the Source of EventID 8? There are many EventIDs with the
same number, as you can see here:

http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid=8&source=

What do you mean with:
"the TS Licensing server is populated thru GPO"?

Did you install Per Device or Per User TS CALs?
I assume that you mean TS CALs, not CALs, correct?

Hi Vera,

Here is the full desription:

Event Type: Information
Event Source: TermServLicensing
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8
Date: 7/19/2007
Time: 4:54:46 PM
User: N/A
Computer: WI100
Description:
Failed to synchronize registered license pack with one or more servers, will
retry later.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

TS servers get special GPO where the TS Licensing Server's FQDN is published.
So the TS servers don't have to query DC's, they use this prefered license
server.

Per User

TS CAL's for Windows 2003 client indeed

Thx for your help Vera.

Cheers,
Didier

Re: Cannot serve CAL tokens to Windows 2003 TS servers

OK, now I get the picture a bit better.
I've never seen this Event before, I can't find any info about it,
and I don't understand what it means :-(
Has there by any chance been another TS Licensing Server in your
domain or forest? Which has left some remnants behind in the
registry, or in AD? Because it seems as if your LS is trying to
contact another LS.

BUT: I don't think that the Event indicates that you are getting
connectivity problems.
Since you are using Per User TS CALs, you will never see the TS
Licensing Server issue them. That's because Per User TS CALs are
currently unmanaged. The Terminal Server only checks if it can
locate a TS Licensing Server, and that's it.
This means that you have to keep track of the number of used
licenses by hand. Documented here:

823313 - Windows Server 2003 Terminal Server licensing issues and
requirements for deployment
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823313

So if I were you, I'd continue to keep an eye on the EventLog, but
as long as you don't see any other licensing Events, all should be
functioning OK.
If you want to go to the bottom of this and get rid of the Event,
you'll have to phone Microsoft Support.
