I have an Asus Lamborghini VX2S. Intel Core Duo, Nvidia 8800GTS, .
Yesterday, my computer has crashed due to a sleep mode error. It came
preinstalled with Vista Ultimate. I was not issued with an OEM disk but was
given the Asustek Recovery Disk.
All patches and software upgrades done.
It worked flawlessly when I first took it - except in one respect.
When it went to sleep, it wouldn't wake up. It stayed totally asleep,
despite waiting, or pressing the esc button etc.. The only way out of the
problem was switching it off and rebooting. Once I even had to take out the
power battery and wait awhile before rebooting it.
Anyways, Vista sleep errors seem to be very very common and so after reading
what other users did, I fixed the problem by not enabling the screensaver
and disabling the power management.
And it works perfectly again.
But over Christmas, I thought I'd enable the screensaver.
Yesterday at about midnight, after doing some internet surfing, (I went
out - came back) the computer went to sleep and wouldn't wake up. I pressed
the shut down button and later restarted the machine. This always worked
before.
Instead I get the black error page:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Windows Error Recovery
Windows failed to start. A hardware or software change might be the cause.
If Windows files have been damaged, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix
the problem. (Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice.)
Launch Startup Repair (recommended)
Start Windows Normally
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Both options don't work and lead back to the same Windows Error Recovery
page.
I tried booting in safemode but have the same result.
My only option it now seems is to use the Asustek Recovery Disk- but that
will wipe out the C partition where I stored my recent Christmas photos and
emails which I am anxious to keep.
What else can I do?
