Hi everyone, I have a strange problem, i have a server which has been built
by another person and it is still in its own workgroup. I am logged in as the
localadmin, the account appears to have all admin attributes, however when I
try to do any admin functions i get a message "You must be logged in as an
operator or administrator to perform this operation"????

Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue? Great fun for a New Year's
Eve!!!

Many thanks in advance.

Re: Localadmin does not have admin rights?????

There's at least a fair chance that someone did something stupid and screwed
up the permissions of the Administrator account. It's equally possible that
they renamed the original "administrator" account to something else, and
created a new one that doesn't really have full rights.

If you can't get a login that has full rights to correct things, I think
you're looking at a repair install.

Re: Localadmin does not have admin rights?????

Yeah, that was my worry also!

I also am unable to join the server to the domain, i am getting the followig
error

"The followig error occurred attempting to join the domain "domain": the
network path was not found".

I know that the DNS, IP, gatewat and S/N Mask are all correct.

A rebuild i think is my only option!

Re: Localadmin does not have admin rights?????

I'd certainly run a full and thorough scan of the machine before I did
anything else. I don't think that's the issue, but it's good to know, since
if it is, you're unlikely to fix it with a repair install.

Re: Localadmin does not have admin rights?????

Charlie, when you say "thorough scan of the machine" what steps are you
thinking of?

Re: Localadmin does not have admin rights?????

I mean boot into safe mode and use your favourite A-V / Malware scanner that
has been completely updated and scan for anything bad. Or use one of hte
online scan tools that several of the AV companies have.

What I don't want is for you to do a repair install only to still have the
problem because it's some malware.
