Greetings,
Any one else notice a lag in the weekly updates of AdAware since Christmas?
My last update was 12/27/2007..

Tks,

Re: Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06R1 updates

Hi Rocky.....apparently that was the last one and we are expected to go
the the bloated new version 2007. I am not about to and will just use
Spybot because it also checks my Firefox cache, etc. AdAware did not.

Just checked the sizes.....the old AA1.06 is 2.8 meg. The new and
improved version 2007 is twenty times that at 20.71. Guess I know which
one I will use. (G)

Cheers....Heather

you'll have to use Spybot and SpywareBlaster.

Please see thread with the subject "Religious Nutcase on the loose!"
started by John John. There are around 114 spoof posts in this NG posted
between 04:59 and 09:41 GMT today similar to the one you mention. Each,
like your own, also cross-posted to another random NG.

Got me, too. I put in a filter on my client:

| -5000 Header "NNTP-Posting-Host: 24.161.5.95"

Marks the forgeries so they are easy to spot. Supposed to have posted from a
Telstra IP address, as well, but I haven't seen it, so I haven't added an
appropriate filter for that one.

If you want to get them off of Google, there is a mechanism in place there.
That won't get them off of the other NNTP servers worldwide; and most no
longer honor cancels.

No "supposed to" about it. The Telstra posts preceded those from Road

At the time I posted, I had only seen the Road Runner source. I couldn't
attest to any other source based on personal observation. That has,
subsequently, changed.

Oh. I forgot. I am just a barbaric Yankee who is supposed repeat accusations
without proof.

Re: Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06R1 updates

Is there by any chance a connection between those 'religious flyers' and
Lavasoft?
Apparently they have abandoned support for the free version of their
software and are trying to get you to "Buy now" the latest edition(s).
They will not even make their support available, unless you are a registered
customer with a purchased product.
As much as I like Ad-Aware SE Personal, I will have to abandon it's use in
favor of Spybot and Spywareblaster, as was mentioned before.

Harry.

About as much chance as the moon being made of blue cheese. What on earth
gave you that idea?

Since AdAware SE is unsupported with no more updates being released
abandoning it would be a good idea.

Because it happened in this context only and they are behaving strangely by
quietly dropping the "free stuff", while promoting their paid version(s).

Do you really think that a company like Lavasoft, which has dedicated
its efforts in helping people getting rid of unwanted pests, would
actually put its reputation on the line by pulling a stupid stunt like
that? It would practically ruin them if they did this and word of it
got out. What you say makes no sense at all, Harry.

As for them dropping free stuff, they dropped SE, which is now quite a
few years old, they have a new free version, just go to their web site
and do some searching and reading and you will find it.

I only left open the possibility, if not, that's fine with me and all the
better.

I did go to their website, but didn't find what you are saying, hence my
thinking.
Will try again and then hopefully find it.

Here's the Tech Specs link for Ad-Aware 2007 Free. The OS requirements
do not include Windows ME as a supported OS.

The download link redirects you to download.com. There are other
mirrors available if you prefer.

Re: Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06R1 updates

I may have been a little too hasty, one free version isn't really a free
version and the other requires Win2000 or better, it will not install on my
pc.
That's too bad, I'll just forget about it.
Thanks anyway for trying.

Harry.

Based on similar drivel appearing in 'news.admin.net-abuse.email', I'd say
this is just the work of an anarchist trying to stir things up. I see that a
lot of folks, who otherwise seem sensible, have been successfully baited by
these posts.
