I just reinstalled windows 98 SE on my Dell Latitude CP Laptop and my display
doesn't even fill up half the screen. My display settings are stuck at either
2 or 16 Colors and 640 X 480. I can't find the drivers on Dell. I guess it
came with plain old 98 and when I reinstalled I put 98 SE on it don't know if
that matters but I sure can't figure it out. Any clues??

Re: Display Settings

Note that the list of possible OSes includes Win2000 and WinME, in addition
to 98 and 95 and everything that came before that (more or less.) I'll lay
you a thousand to one that the term "98" in this case includes 98SE.

It's indeed 98SE that I installed so why can't I change the display settings?

You will need to find out what type of video card is installed. Your
machine should have come with a drivers disk but maybe you cannot find
it. You could try Belarc Advisor as this tells you a lot about your
system including installed hardware, but I am not sure where it gets
the information. It might report a "Generic" display driver as that.
The literature that came with the computer should say. You did not
mention if you did a clean install or a repair install (on top of the
old). If you can find out the brand of the card or onboard chip you
can find drivers for it on the internet. g/l

Re: Display Settings

Go here and get the video drivers (and any of the rest that apply) and
install them according to instructions.
http://support.dell.com/support/dow...&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PNT_CP&hidos=WW1&hidlang=en

TinyURL = http://tinyurl.com/2col4z (if the above link doesn't work for
you.)

If you're not sure what is in your system,, get Everest 2.02 and run it. The
app is no longer widely available, so you can download it from my private
site.

It should tell you the make/model of a component. Note that your video is
almost certainly a "NeoMagic" NM2160, because Dell only provides those
drivers, and because they seldom shipped more than one model of video
adapter in any particular model of laptop.
