Re: WIN98SE SYSTEM FREEZES

Your message makes little sense. Please start over, and turn off the CAPLOCK
key.

If it happens daily, is that at some particular time, or did you mean to say
that it happens all the time -- all day? Does it only happen when you are on
the web?

Re: WIN98SE SYSTEM FREEZES

Does it happen every session? Every day? Or only every once in a few days.
Have you left the computer running for a day (and a night) by itself,
without going on the web? Does it still crash?

Re: WIN98SE SYSTEM FREEZES

It dosesn't happens every session. It will happen every day if I use it
multiple times (turning it on and off). If I use the computer more than 15 or
20 minutes the majority of the time it will freeze up. I don't leave the
computer running. I'll try 24 hours first to provide an answer

Re: WIN98SE SYSTEM FREEZES

I have the same problem and it only happens to me when connected to the
Internet. It started slowly and now occurs every day anywhere from a few
minutes to an hour or more. I'm using w98se and IE as the browser with a 1 GHz
Pentium III and 384 RAM. I do not know if it is due to low system resources,
which is possible as it now shows 66% free. However I just tried surfing the
net without a problem. This showed up about a month or two after changing from
dial-up to DSL. Not certain if that's related but the symptoms appear to
support it? I can live with it but it is a nuisance. The computer will freeze
at random, for instance while on a web page and selecting some text and
opening a text file to save it. Or when browsing through a web page or
selecting links on a web page, or when quickly switching between web pages. It
also occurred when downloading a PGF file and switching back to the web page.
I have tried CAD and Esc but the only fix is a hot boot. I have left the
computer unattended for about an hour and it was still locked up. Yesterday I
used the IE6 Repair Tool to see if that will help. Oh-oh the connection just
terminated - that ain't supposed to happen either!

Re: WIN98SE SYSTEM FREEZES

You do not have the same problem. Even if, by chance, it is more or less the
same problem, we MUST treat each case separately. Feel free to observe this
thread, but any contributions from you will only confuse matters here.
Please post your case to a new thread.

But first, see:

I ran my computer continuously and no problem so far, during this time I used
web twice. This last time on line has been for an hour.

Re: WIN98SE SYSTEM FREEZES

OK, sounds like it really is IE that's causing the problem. Well, the first
step is to run a full set of malware scanners. For instructions and links,
go to the following site and follow their advice completely, all the way
through getting a HijackThis report and posting it to the appropriate forum,
NOT to this forum. We don't do HJT logs here.
http://aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm

You can then continue and go through the next set of procedures, also,
reporting back here when you get results that you think should be reported.
