I've noticed this new annoyance in Explorer, which seems to have started a
few weeks ago. I don't get it *all* the time, but suffice it to say it's
getting on my nerves.

You know how you typically click on a file in details view, scroll down with
the mouse's scrollwheel, and shift-click on another file to select all those
files between the first and last items clicked?

Nowadays, the instant I hit the Shift key (before I have a chance to click
the left mouse button on the second item), the details view repositions
itself (vertically) so the first item that was selected scrolls back in
view. Meaning, I have to scroll back down a second time where I was, and
hit the Shift key again to select the item I was about to click. The second
time around that I hit the Shift key, the list doesn't scroll (as it
should). Hitting the Shift key repeatedly after that doesn't make it scroll
again either--only the first time.

I can't remember exactly how long I've had that, but it's been there since
before this month's Patch Tuesday...I suspect it *might* have been
introduced in last month's. I only have one machine running XP x64, and I
haven't seen this behavior on the x86 version.

Anyone else seeing this?

Re: Minor XP annoyance

It's almost hard to imagine it could be anything else than a sticky key
phenomenon, or possibly a mangled cable???

I've always had this effect. I know no better than that it has always
existed in the form of a "feature", rather than a bug.

IMO, this is in fact a bug, but Microsoft isn't willing to fix it. Or so it
seems.

*Definitely* not an "always been this way" thing on my end, and I've been
using XP x64 since shortly after the RTM release in 05.

If this was some sort of hardware failure, I'd think I would see it in more
than just Explorer...
