Local drives no longer available

Today, for no apparent reason, my local disk drives are not listed under My
Computer on my TS desktop and yes, they were there before.

I haven't checked every user/computer for local drive and printers yet but
the 2 TS accounts I tested on 3 computers in the last hour consistently get
the same results concerning local drives; one (mine) never sees local drives
in TS, the other always does (at least today).

I've checked the settings in the users account on the Windows 2003 server,
the RDP client and the connection properties in terminal server
configuration. Everything looks right.

What perplexes me is that my local drives were being mapped just yesterday.

Sound familiar? A couple of days ago I posted basically the same issue only
the focus was sporadic availability of local printers in TS sessions.

I think I have that under control by manually redirecting the printers
rather than depending on automatic redirection.

Is TS really this flakey or am I overlooking something here?

These are certainly not "normal" problems.
Have you checked the EventLog on the server when this happens?
Have you enabled verbose logging of the user environment?
I would also delete your profile on the TS and check if a new
profile solves the problem. A corrupt profile can cause rather
bizarre behaviour.

The event viewer is not recording any errors other than the failure to
redirect local printers that I know do not have drivers on the server and
that I don't need while in TS.

I have enabled verbose logging from the WMI console but I don't find the key
UserEnvDebugLevel referred to in your link.

As the article states, you have "to add or to modify the following
registry entry".

So if it isn't there (meaning that the system uses the default
value of 0x00010001), create it.

From another TS users session I used the terminal services manager to reset
the problem users session while they were disconnected and now the local
drives are available when they log in.
