I would like to thank all those who helped and hope that this will help
anyone else with the same problem Dell1520 vista installed as standard
To put XP home or pro on this type of machine
Go to bios and change the type of sata drive to ATA this will allow you
to just place an XP disc in and boot to setup without using a special
sata driver
Then follow through as normal for XP setup
Many thanks again for all the help given
