Windows 2003 x64 sp1

Without rebooting, how can I tell how many procs my box has? Task manager
shows 4, system info shows 4, and I "think" I have 2 dual-core procs. I
need to know for sure, without bouncing the box. I also want to make sure
that 1 dual-core hyperthreaded proc doesn't show up as 4 procs.

Thanks, Andre

Re: # of procs

Well, 2 (CPUs) x 2 (Cores each) = 4 (Processors)

So if you have 2 dual-core CPUs, both the Device Manager and
Task Manager will show 4 CPUs, 1 for each core.

What's bothering you about what you see?

Re: # of procs

What bothers me is that in Win2003 x32, when I go to Control Panel/System,
it tells me (correctly) how many procs I have. When I do the same in
Win2003 x64 it just shows one proc. So, I was hoping there would be a way
to know for sure. I don't want to assume it's really a dual-proc box only
to find that it's a single proc with dual-cores and hyperthreading turned
on - and it shows up as 4 procs in task manager.

Re: # of procs

What does it tell you in the Device Manager in x64? I can't
answer about hyperthreading, but I do know that with dual
core CPUs each core is shown as an individual entry under
'Processors' in the device manager.

In the Task Manager you may have to click on the
'Performance' tab and then pull down 'View' and 'CPU
History' and then select 'One Graph per CPU' if that option
is available to you.

Are there any drivers that need to be installed for your CPU(s)?

Re: # of procs

Device mgr shows 4 procs. Device mgr also doesn't show that any drivers
need to be installed for the procs.

I guess I'll assume there are 2 procs. Thanks for your help.

Re: # of procs

Additionally, your CPU is identifying itself, and it's speed, on the
Boot-Screen when you start the machine - google what it says and know for
sure!

Re: # of procs

One thing - most of the dual-core Xeons no longer do hyperthreading. (and
even if they did, I doubt I'd turn it on.) So, since Device Mgr shows the
exact model of processor, you can verify that as well.

Re: # of procs

Hello,
What does msinfo32.exe show you?
I am running Vista right now but this is what it shows me.
Processor AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 250, 2393 Mhz, 1 Core(s), 1 Logical
Processor(s)
Processor AMD Opteron(tm) Processor 250, 2393 Mhz, 1 Core(s), 1 Logical
Processor(s)

This shows the number of cores and the number of logical processor(s) for
each installed processor(Socket) in the system

Re: # of procs

In Server, I'm not getting that level of detail. I'm getting just the # of
logical processors.
