How to determine clients get licenses from?

Hi all,

I have windows 2003 R2 terminal server. I did not activate the licensing
server yet as we are waiting for the license pack. But, users can connect to
the terminal server. Is there a way to determin how clients get licenses
from? How many days the temporary licenses have been used?

Thank you.

Re: How to determine clients get licenses from?

The clients will be running on temporary licenses, issued by the
Licensing Server, provided that the TS can locate the LS. An LS which
isn't activated yet can still issue temporary licenses.

Start the TS Licensing Manager, and you'll see all temporary
licenses, including that expiration dates.

I did not see anything in the terminal licensing server. I think I did not
activate it. If I do not have licenses now, is it better to activate it now
or wait untill I receive the licenses?

Thank you.

Re: How to determine clients get licenses from?

As I wrote, a license server which is not activated *does* issue
temporary licenses, provided that the TS can locate it.
Have you verified that?
You can configure the LS in Terminal Services Configuration -
Server settings.

And what is the licensing mode of the TS? I have been assuming that
it is in the default licensing mode of Per Device licensing. But if
you changed it to Per User licensing mode, then you will never see
any licenses being issued, neither temporary nor permanent ones.

Re: How to determine clients get licenses from?

that explained something. I changed to the per user mode and that's why I
did not see anything. If the temporary licenses expired, will users get
some warning?

Thanks again for your support as always.

Re: How to determine clients get licenses from?

As I wrote, no Per User licenses will ever be issued, neither
temporary nor permanent ones. Per user licenses are currently
unmanaged, so you must keep track of the number of conecting users
by hand.
Users will not get any warnings, for the same reason.
