I am having an issue that is server side related. Windows 2003 SP3 Terminal
Server. When users connect the universal driver being used is hp deskjet
85cxi. I make the change to deskjet 990c and it works. But after I log back
in the driver has been reset to 85cxi. I wait over 60sec's after the change
is made. In fact I have left the connection on for more than 10 minutes after
the change. I have also made other property changes to try and make it stick.
This is happening on multiple clients so it is a server issue. I also tried
renaming the universal driver dll hoping windows would be forced to recreate
it.

1 - how do I remove the 85cxi driver? I went into print server settings and
found the driver, removed it, but it still is getting installed. And also
reappears after removal. How do I do this manually?

2 - How do I force the 990c to be the default driver?

I have asked this question before so pardon the repition and there is a MS
KB article to rename the driver association in the inf file - I did that and
still no change.

If I want to completely remove the driver, and clean the print driver list.
How should I do this?

Thanks,

SJMP

Re: Universal Print Driver

I assume that you mean the fallback printer driver?

Here's an article by Stefan Vermeulen which explains how to change
the preferred fallback driver:

2003-SP1-Fallback-Printer-Driver-Works-which-now-supports-color

RE: Universal Print Driver

Hello Sjmp,

Thank you for your post and also thank to Vera for sharing the information.
This is George and I will be assisting you in this post.

Based on your description, I understand that:

You have a printer working with Terminal Server. You want to upgrade this
print driver, but when you log back you found this driver is reset to the
previous driver.

If I have any misunderstanding, please feel free to let me know.

You can try the following suggestions to see if it can work:

Suggestions:
=================

1. Upgrade this driver on all users' computers.

2. Terminate all users' sessions to the Terminal Server and then upgrade
this driver.

If these suggestions don't work, please collect the following information
for further research:

Information Needed:
=================

1. Does this issue occur in local console or a Terminal session?

2. How did you notice this issue? Please capture several screen shots so
that I can better understand the issue.

3. Did you get the HP deskjet 990c driver from HP website? If you got this
driver from other website, it may not work well. I suggest you try the
Windows Server 2003 built-in HP deskjet 990c driver.

I look forward to your reply. Thank you.

Sincerely,
George Yin
