Hi all,
I've just freshly installed Windows Server 2003 x64 with SP2 slipstreamed.
After installing and the box reboots, it doesn't boot into the graphical
part of Windows. After the progress bar that goes from left to right a
couple of times it hangs and the monitor goes into standby.
In safe mode, it boots normally. I've tried enabling boot logging, but the
logfile doesn't say what really goes wrong. I've installed southbridge
drivers, ACPI drivers and CPU drivers, to no success. Enabling VGA mode also
does provide a solution.
So videodrivers aren't the problem, or else VGA mode should work. Driver for
my RAID card work fine, otherwise safe mode wouldn't work. Chipset drivers
work fine, otherwise I'd get all kinds of BSoD, I suppose.
So what IS the problem then? If I install the very same windows but with
SP1, the thing work like a charm! So is SP2 fundamentally broken, or did I
do something incredibly stupid?
Remember: it's a default installation, and it NEVER booted normally.
Specs for completeness:
- Asus A8R-MVP (Xpress1600 + ULi M1575)
- Athlon64 X2 3800+
- 2,5GB RAM
- Highpoint RocketRAID 2320
- Boot array of 3 disks
- Data array of 4 disks
- Intel PRO/1000PT network adapter
- Disabled onboard LAN, firewire and audio.
- No overclocking, tweaking or anything like that.
Who will help me out here? Should I install SP1 and forget about SP2 or is
there a real solution? Please help!
Yours,
