Hi Newsgroup,
I just want to share a bad experience that we had with the SP2 on
Windows 2003 Server Standard English R2.
The installation was fine but afterwards the remote administration was
gone. Which means that the remote clients accessing the server reacted
like there is no terminal service active.
We set the [x] in "Control panel > System > Remote Administration"
several times. There we reassigned users that are allowed for remote
access. We checked the firewall for problems with the remote port.
Microsoft ISA Firewall reported successfull pass through of remote
access. To verify that the ISA is not the problem we removed the
firewall and switched the Server Firewall off. But still we where
unable to reactivate remote access. Then we reinstalled the ISA and
reapplied our standard config again => no luck.
Finally we removed SP2 and the remote access working again!
After that we decided to reinstall the server with x64 R2 and applied
SP2 on top: remote administration is now running. Ok, it helped to
speed up our x64 migration but it was still annoying.
Best regards,
Holger
