Recently I tried to run a small noinstall utility, gave a error message:
invalid page fault in MSVCRT.dll at 0167:78009465, had to key Close on
the error screen 9 times before it closed. Then, in Taskbar, PE Shield
opened for the first time with error screen: can't access comdlg32.dll".
Closed that.
I only get these messages, at this point (don't use this machine every
day) on this one utility, which normally works fine.
As the files could be corrupted, in DOS I replaced those 2 files from a
good source. I also replaced the utility with another copy, same result.
Search does not turn up any reference to PE-Shield. Two registry tools
show no entry. I went through each Software hive in the registry, no
entry.
In Google search, PE-Shield can be downloaded, it should have showed up
as installed, and the file located somewhere. Problem is, it is invisible
on the hard drive.
How to find something that does not show up as installed, in registry
or in Search?
