Windows Vista Orphaned Temporary Files

My temporary Internet files cache is set to the default (50mb) and Vista's
Disk Cleanup confirms this. But, when I navigate to the actual folder
(AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files) there's over 5gb
worth of stuff in there. Disk Cleanup doesn't get rid of it. Clearing the
entire cache from IE itself (including cookies, passwords, etc) only cuts it
in half. What gives?

I discovered this while trying to figure out a creeping mysterious loss of
disk space... the other culprit being the WinSxs folder where install files
are cached (which is also ludicruously huge... and I would love to move to
my file server backup-- anyone know about this one too?).

Re: Orphaned Temporary Files

You could just delete all of it. Even if you set it to 50mb, other users
might not have. Plus, it's time to switch to Firefox 2. More safe, secure,
and better. Besides, Disk Cleanup is just a way that Microsoft uses to get
you to compress files making your computer way much slower than before.

Like my Outlook Express 8? Great design. Looks like Office 2007.

Re: Orphaned Temporary Files

Nah. From personal experience: FireFox is slow to load, slow to render, and
generally makes most sites look like ****. Trouble is most FireFox users
don't even know the sites they visit have a lot more functionality than
they're seeing. Ignorance is bliss.

Anyway...
