a)
Because all manufacturers "help" each other by making customers
think they need to buy new hardware/software - ideally both,
brand name, new, at OfficeMax - to get anything done.
b)
I bought a Logitech wireless trackball made WAY after 95 stopped
being "supported" by you-know-who, with 95 and 98 all the way to
XP listed as supported and it will NOT work under 95. Works fine
with 98SE.
The reason most manufacturers put 98SE (or Me or higher) on
their products half the time only has to do with the fact that
some or all of the software (which may or may not be totally
useless to someone with a clue) won't work with older OS's or
because they are toeing you-know-who's line AFA "no support for
95/98".
I have 2 LG CD burners, one in a 95 and one in a 98SEL machine,
and they both work just fine. Needless to say they were both
made within the last 5 or 6 years. They both came with Neroshit
but I am a proud user and owner of CDRWin from Goldenhawk which
works just fine with 95 and 98SE.
If a Sharpie isn't good enough for you and you want to make cute
labels etc. you will be much better off finding a small graphics
program or using a DTP program to do that. In all fairness,
while I consider Nero the most illogical and complicated
software I ever had the misfortune of using, their "label
design" software - while I have not bothered actually USING it -
does appear to have all the features. But it's a long way from
features to quality, as many who buy a "Car Of The Year" will
attest to.
