An item that precipitates voiciferous debate usually is internet browsers. Given the limitation of HTTP, or better still, the fact a browser was originally invented for text, why has someone not created something simpler yet?

Presently, you need to jump through hoops just to get an amazing looking site. If its asp then you use XHTML, CSS, Visual Studio, Javascript, XML, Silverlight, SQL...yada, yada, yada.

If the browser was never meant to embed videos, surely it would be easier to create a new architecture now? We are cleverer now, let me rephrase that, more experienced now so as to avoid the pitfalls of the aforementioned architecture.

If MS can procure IronRuby, IronPython, C#, F# (.NET in general), is it beyond them to create a new browser? Instead of this boilerplate plumbing web developers spend trying to sort out. Anyone that enjoys javascript is a sado-masochist. Yet this is the bridge Volta is trying to fill, using a scripting language. Whatever happened to VB script? Why was this not developed and choosen instead of Javascript?

Why has the open source community not innovated in this space either?
