Why I can't run XP on my new PC??

Just purchased a Gateway FX7020 with Vista Home Premium. I've downgraded
to XP Pro and now I can't connect my internet.

You should have researched driver availability first. There are no XP
drivers for this computer:

It is possible that you could put in a PCI network adapter and have it
work if all of your other hardware is OK. However, if you are having
other difficulties (USB issues, power issues, etc.) then the smartest
thing to do is restore your computer to factory condition and either
live with Vista or return the machine to the store and buy one running
the operating system you want (XP).

Did Gateway have any winxp chipset drivers & Lan on their site for this
mobo?
If not & unless you can identify the specific mobo, & it may be a gateway
specific one, you run the risk of having an unstable PC
If you can disable the onboard Lan in the bios you would be able to fit a
card

Research first - save yourself the trouble.

Having skipped that part - contact Gateway. They can tell you whether or
not they support that system with Windows XP on it.

Unfortunately - a Google Search turns up nothing on getting this
particular model downgraded to Windows XP...

Was there more than a 'didn't like the interface' or 'couldn't
understand where to go or how to do _____' reason to downgrade the
decently powered quad-core system with 3GB of memory?

Contact Gateway and/or figure out the actual manufacturer's of each
component in the system and download the drivers directly from each one of
their support web pages.

Have you checked Device Manager to see what devices don't have
drivers?
Get the drivers directly from the manufacturers of the interfaces.

That network adapter is "crappy" in terms of dying easily. Otherwise the
WinXP should work on FX7020 with no probs. I run the original OS (Vista Home
Premium) on the same computer you have and the thing (network adapter) died
on me completely the first day. Went to Best Buy and put Netgear GA311 inside
(I pulled out the "phone card" and replaced it with GA311) and no problems
since then.

These are some pretty ignorant answers here. Just because Gateway
doesn't provide drivers (they dont want you to downgrade, why do you
think BestBuy no longer sells XP except through GeekSquad?) doesn't mean
they don't exist. Who here thinks Gateway, HP, Sony, ect. make their own
motherboards? They don't. In recent years HP have been using Asus
motherboards, and because I just got a Gateway GT5670 from someone who
wanted to get rid of Vista and go to XP I googled the motherboard number
"MCP61PM-GM" and instantly got results from Gateway and DFI. Makes me
think they run a ECS motherboard does it not? So because usually
computer manufacturers use a slightly customized version to fit their
needs you can usually find a motherboard with the same features and use
their drivers. Example I knew this computer had Nvidia graphics (on the
sticker on the computer and AMD, which was just obvious) I went to
Nvidia after I installed XP and did the "search for chipset" I knew it
was nforce because of Onboard video. It gave me 12.51 Nforce 520.
(Nvidia 520 Chipset) using onboard nvidia 6150. That took under 5
minutes. Next go to ECS and search for motherboards containing a Nforce
4 520 with onboard VGA. They did not make many so it was not hard to
find. Find a motherboard with the same features and try the drivers.
They worked. I'm done. I have done this a lot, even with laptops, but
obviously Desktops are the easiest. If you would like help with this

PS: I realize this is an old post but there are a lot of people out
there that need help with this kind of thing.
