Hey

I'm about to start installing some patches from microsoft on our win2k3
server today. There is a yellow icon in the sytem tray saying that updates
are ready to be installed on this server.

I wonder if there is a way I can find out if the server needs reboot because
of these patches. Maybe I somehow can view what patches will be installed
and in this window it display info regarding if reboot is needed of the
server... , I don't know how to get this information

- I ask because if a reboot isn't needed then the patching of the server
will not affect the users so much

any suggestions?

You should be able to double click on that icon to bring up a dialog and
then select Custom radio button > Next. From this dialog you should be able
to see what updates are to be applied. Shouldn't be too hard at this point
to look up the KB articles and get a feel if a reboot is required.

Re: patching win2k3 and reboot

Most likely, installing the updates will require a reboot, but they could
be ones I guess that wouldn't...chances are slim though.

Re: patching win2k3 and reboot

Well if they are the Feb 2008 security updates. Forget it, reboot is
necessary.
