On Win 2K Pro I have 2 Administrator Accts. + 2 Other. On another HD, I have
Vista Ultimate & w/ Vista when I boot up I get three icons from which I can
choose & check: 1 for Admin., 1 for my User Name; and a Third for Guest.
Can I get the same sort of options on boot-up to Win 2K Pro's screen? NOTE:
I do not need or use Passwords, so none are required for booting to either
HD. However w/ Win 2K Pro, it just boots right into my Wallpaper, Start
Menu, Desktop, etc. WITHOUT giving me an option which of the accounts I might
wish to utilize. I want to be able to access the other accts. sometimes.
Thanks for any clarity on settings or whatever it takes.

Look in Contro Panel | Users and Passwords -> Users must enter a user
name...

Re: Options for Logging On

Hello, J:
Thank you for trying. Unfortunately, it asks for User Name AND a
password. I don't use passwords. Vista Ultimate gives me 3 sign-in icon
options and does not ask for a password. Is it possible to get ALL accts. to
show after boot-up on the screen so I can get into the one I want, or is that
only a feature added w/ Vista Ultimate?

Re: Options for Logging On

No. That first appeared on Windows XP, the Windows 2000 doesn't do
that, users have to enter their names. You can use blank passwords if
you want but if the machine connects/networks to another computer blank
passwords can create problems.

Re: Options for Logging On

John: Thank you for attempting to address this issue. I go to Control Panel,
Users and Passwors, open it up. I click on Advanced; I get 5 categories of
users: Administrators, ASPNet, Guest, Preferred Customer (which has Admin.
rights), and a 5th under my name (also w/ Admin. rts.). What I WANT is to
boot up under Preferred Customer which is the user acct. I have used ever
since I bought the machine 5 years ago & which has ALL my settings, files,
etc. IT NEVER HAD OR USED A PASSWORD, nor do I want one. I just want it to
boot up like it used to--automatically through the set-up screens onto my
desktop. HOW DO I GET IT TO BOOT to PREFERRED CUSTOMER? I have tried
highlighting that user category, but it boots instead into one of the other
user accts., "Administrator" , I think.
Please advise if there is a way. W/ XP Pro and Vista Ult. I get to select
at a boot-up screen which User acct. I want. With W2K, I do not seem to be
able to re-set which acct. I get to use (see) once I boot up into W2K. I
have read through the 1,767-page Win2K Professional Resource Kit book in
vain. It should be simple to pick which User acct. will boot-to-desktop.
Thanks. Thomas
