After performing several updates yesterday my vista machine has gone from
powerhouse to super-slow. It was starting up from boot to logon in less than
2 minutes. Now it will start sit on a black screen for 5-6 minutes and then
slowly piece by piece load the start up screen - upon logging in the screen
will sit blank for a minute and then slowly load the interface. Windows
Messenger will load and sign in - and then loose its connection and resign
back in. If I open IE7 the screen will load the page but show the thinking
circle for about 1 minute.

This has all just happened after Windows Update installed the updates
released yesterday. Any ideas?

So essentially from boot to being able to use IE7 is about 8-10 minutes;
when it was less than 3 minutes.

Re: Slow Startup After 2-13-08 Windows Updates - Vista Business

hi, i have basicaly the same problem (after the uptdates), the diference
is that my'n doesn't pass the black screen at all unless i start manualy
the explorer.exe trough the task manager, the problem is that after the
explorer starts no programs like messenger and others from the current
user are started, also, i've tryed to see a movie and media player only
displays a black screen with the sound. I've reinstaled display drivers
and reversed to the normal windows theme but the same is hapenning. I
would love if someone had a solucion for this problem that doesn´t pass
for microssoft help because, my vista, i don´t realy know till witch
point it is legal, someone has installed it for me free of charge so...
I have a vista dvd but didn´t wont to use it unless i know it wont be
for a re-installacion, to me, that would allmost for sure mean, lose it!

So if you guys have any ideia, please, please help me!
