For awhile I have been getting an update error 800B0100 for the Update For
Windows Vista (KB943302). It keeps erroring out and I cannot download it,
install it or delete it from the windows update. I have all the latest
updates as of 16 Feb 08 installed. Any ideas?

Thanks

Re: Update Error 800B0100 Vista Business

Mine was a different update but the same error code. Here's what worked for
me.

Search for the KB number in the Downloads section of the Microsoft web site.
Download the file to your desktop (or some other temporary location where
you can easily find it).
Click the Start button and type 'msconfig' (without the quotes) and hit
Enter. UAC will probably stick its nose in, in which case click Continue.
On the General tab of msconfig, click 'Selective Startup' and then UNCHECK
'Load startup items'.
If you click Apply or OK the system will ask you to reboot. Do so by
clicking 'Restart'.
Once Windows has rebooted and settled down, double-click the file you
downloaded. Ignore any messages about Security Center or your Antivirus
being switched off etc. All this took quite some time for me so be patient
(although slow startup is the next problem I have to sort out with mine so
you might be OK).
Hopefully this time the update will install successfully. If it doesn't I'm
afraid it's back to the drawing board and wait for someone else to answer.
Either way, run msconfig again and this time click 'Normal startup'. Apply
it and allow to reboot - job done (hopefully).

If this works it means that one of your startup programs was blocking the
update. Antivirus programs are favourites for this, and disabling them
isn't always as simple as turning it off via the tray icon. I use AVG and
disabling it didn't help, so maybe it's something else. Narrowing it down
is laborious, and means waiting for the next update to fail, disabling half
your startup programs (via the Startups tab in msconfig) instead of all of
them and seeing what happens. Then when you know which half it's in, wait
for the next update to fail, disable half of that half... etc. etc. etc.
until you find the culprit.

By the way, you may find downloading the file and running it manually is not
necessary. It's just that by the time I got to this stage I'd already
downloaded it.
