Hei

I have problems with Outlook 2003 / Office 2003 running on a Windows 2003
SBS.

User are conntecting via a Remote Desktop connection. Terminal Services.
Total users: 50, during normal days around 20 users online. With around 15
users online, outlook is getting really slow.

Is there a way to make outlook performe better?

The server is dual core 3.8 with 4 GB RAM. 2,5 GB RAM in use with 15 users
online. CPU load not bad at all, 10-20 prosent.

Microsoft writes that using Word as email editor makes outlook slow. User
have to run Word as editor because of some features f.ex. spell check.

Thanks for any idea.

I have used this for x64 Terminal Servers, not sure about x86 systems

RE: slow outlook performance with 15+ users 2003 SBS remote desktop

I would not recommend using Word as your email editor on Terminal Services,
unless you are ok with the performance hit. Spellcheck is also available in
the native Outlook Email Editor, so this is not a reason (by itself) to use
Wordmail.

Additionally, some people even turn off background spelling and grammar
checking because it adds additional load on the TS.

What is your local disk configuration and what kind of RAID Controller are
you using on the TS. For optimal performance use RAID10 and a battery backed
RAID Controller so Write Caching can be enabled. RAID1 would be the second
best choice and RAID5 should not be use on TS unless performance is not a
concern.

Are you using the Office GPO Adm Templates to disable menu animations?
