I support a number of Windows 2000 servers in an enterprise enviroment (as
well as Server 2003). I'm having issues with a number of the 2K machines.
The WMI service will terminate unexpectedly and then (per the recovery
options) restart. The service works as it is supposed to after the restart,
but since we monitor the environment with MOM, this is sending a large number
of alerts which I would like to eliminate.
Does this repeated restart indicate a problem with the WMI service or should
I look elsewhere for the root cause? I have not seen the issue on any of the
2003 servers, but am not familiar enough with the construction of the
services to know if there is an architectural difference in WMI on those
different OS versions.
