My current Computer is a Sony VAIO - Pentium 4 - CPU 1300M.
From the settings options, the mouse appears to be set at double click, but
whenever I attempt at highlighting/selecting a group of objects (jpeg, .txt
or whatever files) and single click on the first of a series, it immediately
wants to work with the first object and gives me no time to highlight any
other or range of others. I tried to slow down the click speed but it does
not seem to make a difference.
It does appear that every thing is executed by a single click, but I do not
see other options about the mouse movement.
Am I missing something?

Do objects become selected when you point at them? That is, when the
cursor is touching but you don't click? If so, it is single click and
you select a range by just pointing...use shift or Ctrl key and point
to objects or range therof. Personally, I like single click, never
saw any need to click twice when I can do it just once.

You looked in Settings, Folder options, General tab? Is "Custom"
checked? If so, the "settings" button gives you what is current and
available.

Start "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer", click "View", "Folder
Options", click the "General" tab and see if "Classic Style" is selected.
If not, select it and click "OK".

IF what you want is double click rather than single click:

Start > Settings > Folder Options > Custom Settings > Click Items as

Re: Question about Mouse settings

You *may* have a faulty mouse of course, micro-switches do eventually wear
(or even be faulty from manufacturer).

Using Control panel | Mouse icon, try testing your mouse button
functionality. You should also have the option to transpose the left and
right buttons.

Although it may take a bit of getting used to, but see if the same thing
happens with the buttons transposed. It should prove the mouse one way or
the other.

Re: Question about Mouse settings

Thanks for the tip! The Folder options display does show the current
settings, as compared to the Mouse display from Start/Settings/Control
Panel/Mouse.
I can see the options available that, I am sure, will, probably will play
with, in time.
I am beginning to agree with you that the single click setting will be OK,
once I get used to it. Pressing/Holding Shift or Ctrl keys will allow me to
point and/or select items. I need more pracrice, however.
Thank you for your suggestion!

Re: Question about Mouse settings

I do not have any explanation for it, but the "View" Tab, from My Computer
or Windows Explorer does not show "Folder Options".
Weird!
Thank you for your reply!

Re: Question about Mouse settings

Simi;arly to what I have seen from Ben Meyers suggestion about the View Tab
from My Computer or Windows Explorer, Folder Options or Custom Settings ,
when I go to Start > Settings > Folder Options > Custom Settings are not
shown.
Thank you for the input!

I see you may just stay with the single click, but to clarify, there are
potentially reasons for the inability to set this.

The driver software for the nouse has moved these settings to the driver
page/settings.

Policies have been implimented, and this has not been allowed.

You may have VIEW AS WEB PAGE, Web Desktop, and other web settings which
MAY be interferring with these settings.

You may have installed TweakUI and disabled the ability to change these
settings.

Another application has disabled/is in control these settings.

Re: Question about Mouse settings

This Computer has been available, but has not had much use and not much has
been installed on it, to my recollection. I will spent some time looking into
it, but, at this point, single click appears to be acceptable.
Thank you for your inputs!

Re: Question about Mouse settings

My first comment to this message did not appear to go thru.
This is my essentially my reply, if the first did not really go thru.
* The mouse responds properly to a desired end of a click, I see no evidence
that it might be faulty, but I will try another if doubts may come up.
Thank you, for your input!
