I have an ATI rage fury pro/xpert 2000 pro display adaptor, at least that's
what the device manager tells me.

On occasion, during warm reboots, the machine will lose the display driver
during the reboot. It'll get past the Windows's screen and when the desktop
is supposed to start loading, the screen is black.

Rebooting again will make the system go into the startup menu after the
Windows splash screen. It doesn't matter which option you choose because
it'll go straight into safe mode. Once it loads the wallpaper the display
properties will come up and I can change to high color 16 bit. After the
prompt to restart the machine will act fine again and I can resize the
desktop and change it to true 32.

This issue has gone on for years now. It'll happen more often if I change
the hardware acceleration past 0%.

Checked ATI's site but no updated drivers.

Thanks in advance.

Re: display adapter issue

I had similar problems. Moving the hardware accel down would make it go
away. The cure was to obtain a different graphics card, in my case. There
were no updated drivers for my old card and it just would not do the trick
anymore.
The nice part is, you can get a decent graphics card pretty cheap. My bet
would be that would fix your problem.
Heirloom, old and did it for me

Thanks Loom. Whenever I can get the funds I'll look into that. Money's
been tight recently.

Re: display adapter issue

I certainly can relate to that. Might I suggest you check around at some of
your local computer shops.....very often they will have old cards that are
left over from someone's upgrade, etc. that are working just fine and you
can pick one up for next to nothing. You should be able to pick up an old
32Meg card for a few bucks and that would be plenty for a machine running
Me.....a 64 Meg card shouldn't be much either. It is hard to find a new
card with less than 128 meg anymore!

Heirloom, old and just make sure you get the Me
compatible drivers with it!!!

Amen to that. I'll have to e-mail freedom scientific to see if there's a
card that I shouldn't get because it'll mess with my JAWS for Windows.
