i'm having a lot of trouble keeping a connect active in terminal
services. i connect and work for a few minutes and it boots me out.
i try logging back in and the connection is refused. thirty minutes or
so later i can use the connection again. the server is windows 2000
server. the clients are two vista machines on the local network. i
have a xp computer with a connection from outside the local not having
any problem. i can make a direct connection to the server going to
start -> run -> \\ipaddress, but i can't ping the server. anyone have
any ideas?

Re: term server disconnecting me?

That sounds like Vista's autotuning.

934430 - Network connectivity may fail when you try to use Windows
Vista behind a firewall device

thanks for the quick response. your suggestions didn't work. this
has been only presenting a problem the last week or so. the only
thing the scanner found was upnp support. is this necessary for rdp?
why would it work and then all of a sudden not work?

You might post in a Vista newsgroup.
I've seen hundreths of posts about problems with the latest Windows
Updates for Vista, but haven't really paid much attention, since I
don't use Vista.

not able to connect when the vista machine can't. is there any tools
to help me figure out what is going on?

OK, that's new info.
So all the clients who are having trouble are on the same network
segment, is that correct? And you can't ping the server? Not by
name, or not by IP address, or both?
It seems to be a general network problem, not a TS problem.
Have you checked your default gateway and subnet mask?
Maybe your router has an errorlog?
I would ask this in a network newsgroup.

when one computer can't login all the computers on the lan can't
login. when i ping the request times out. the gateway and subnet
haven't changed in a year or so. even though the ts dies the internet
connection works fine. i'll post this in a network group also, but
i'm thinking its windows and/or terminal services.

If you can't ping, it has nothing to do with TS.
It could be a windows problem, but a networking group will be able
to help you better.
Have you checked the EventLogs on all servers involved (DC, DNS,
TS)?
