I have a windows sbs 2003 server running sharepoint. We have excel
documents on the site that we share. We have (unfortunately) one laptap
with vista ultimate on it and another laptop with windows xp. At times, not
all the time, when a shared excel workbook is saved by the vista machine,
the xp machine cannot open it up. We get a message stating that it is not
in a recognizable format. However, if I save the workbook under a different
name on my laptop, it can be opened just fine. None of this ever happened
when both machines were running xp. Does anyone have any ideas what could
be happening?

Re: Vista, Sharepoint and Excel

Hi,

Which versions of Office are on each machine?

Office 2007 will save in a new file format (xlsx) which is not recognized by
Office 2003. Anyone using Office 2007 should use "Save as" and select Excel
97 to 2003 format to maintain compatibility with existing documents.
