Hi All,
I was wondering whats the best way to backup your file servers.
At the moment I currently have the following setup for the main file servers
DFS1-Hosting Namespaces on First VLAN
DFS2-Primary File Store on First VLAN
DFS3-"Offsite" File Store on Second VLAN
This way I use the second file server for failover should the primary file
server fail. Works well.
But to cut to the question...
I currently back up each namespace contents (Engineering, ITDepartment,
Stationary, etc.) individually and overwrite an original "full copy" backup
file with incremental backups.
I wish to create a backup plan where I dont keep overwriting the same backup
file each night. So that should a user tell me in 3 days time that he
overwrote a file or deleted a file by mistake 3 days ago, I can still recover
it.
I guess this would require a full copy every day.
We currently have Shadow Copies enabled but only at the standard schedules
of 7am and 12pm as per default.
I would like to know how I could recover a file that was deleted 3 days ago.
At the moment that file would be gone because I am overwriting the backup
files for each department every night with incremental changes.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
