However don't most O2007 processes have a different extension? docx
rather than doc, xls? rather than xls, etc.. OK, now I've checked I see
that PowerPoint 2007 specific files have a ppsm, ppsx, ppthtml, pptm,
pptmhtml or pptx extension so AAH should be safe using the PowerPoint
viewer to access a file with a ppt extension.

I kinda cheat and email them to myself at yahoo, their server will
translate them to a viewable format i can then save to my puter..

I have been installing the Compatibility Pack for older office installations as well as
Visio Viewer 2007 and Powerpoint Viewer 2007 so all our Office 2003 users can be compatible
with the users who are already updated to Office 2007. We too will be forced to use Office
2007. I don't like the new interface and I don't understand the need to alter it or to not
have a Office 2003 user interface choice (Office 2003 skin if you want to use that
terminology).

I checked the PowerPoint 2007 extensions by looking at the PowerPoint
extensions added to the supported File Types on this box by the
Compatibility Pack which I installed some months ago. <g>
I've got an unopened boxed copy of O2007 Pro on the shelf to the side of
me sitting alongside a couple of similarly unopened Vista Ultimate boxes.
I just can't find a reason for installing O2007 as the only components I
use are Excel and Access and can do all I want using O2003. I have Word
installed but rarely use it as I'm a 20+ year WordPerfect user and I've
never felt any need for Outlook as I don't access my mail via Exchange.
As for PowerPoint I use it to view files but only occasionally have I
created a presentation.
I'm clearly a neanderthal when it comes to software and find I can do all
I want with what I'm presently using. The same goes for Vista which I
tested and I did run the copy I received for testing for a while but never
activated it. I found Vista offered me little that I wanted whilst not
supporting some of my software and hardware. That's changed now so I
might install it again and keep it running. My last install which was
used for testing SP1 expired around the time that SP1 went RTM so a nice
clean Vista SP1 install might be in order.

We are creatures of habit. I still use, and enjoy, Quicken for DOS v8 for savings, checking
and money market accounts.

I'm not certain about creatures of habit but rather feel, as I suspect you
do as well from your comment, that if a product does what I want it to do
then there is little point in upgrading it unless by continuing to use
that older product I am exposing myself to greater risk than I am prepared
to accept. However being aware of the limitations and weaknesses of a
software product and making a risk analysis based on ones competence and
awareness means that using an older product isn't always as risky as some
might think.
As for your using Quicken for DOS v8 you are way in advance of myself.
All I use are a few Excel spreadsheets in a workbook and enter data by
hand. OTOH perhaps this shows what a simple life I now lead having been
retired (due to ill-health) for the past eleven years.

Are you saying you can send a Power Point file to yourself at a Yahoo!
address and it will translate to a readable format???? If so, that's just
too cool. I dl'd the Power Point viewer and have to save the file someplace
before I can open it with the viewer (can't open it from the email in OE,
for some reason). I will try that the next time I get something in PP
format....thanks for the tip.

Howdy Heirloom,
I get some emails from vendors from time to time in odd formats which
software I don't use and by chance one day I forwarded the thing to my
yahoo account and low and behold it poped up in one of those little windows
that displays attachments.
Sometimes I have to save em in a BMP format but thats better than
nothing..

mon, keyboard, etc.), with 160G HD, 1G Ram, on board everything, DVD Burner,
network card, $268 U.S. I thought that was pretty amazing, even for a
cheapo cpu!
