Can't install Visual Studio .NET 2003 - INTERNAL ERROR - 2908 ?

I was having problems with MS Visual Studio .NET 2003 in getting it to create a new Web Application Project.* I suspect the issue was with its hooking into IIS5 (Windows XP Pro).* The problem was so bad i went ahead and deinstalled both .NET Framework 1.1 and 2.0 from the system, deinstalled IIS and deinstalled MS Visual Studio .NET 2003.* I then reinstalled IIS.* I went to install VS but after a few minutes i got the error:

Internal Error 2908. {1D377656-ACBB-44E2-BFEB-4CC6FB0FDA33}

Hunh?!* Anyone have an idea on how to get around this issue?*
