Hi all,

Recently I installed Essentials Codec Pack. I got Media Player Classic,
Audio Decoder Configuration and Video Decoder Configuration shortcuts, among
other things.

1) Previously when I use Windows Movie Maker, I was able to preview the
movie clips on the right pane. Now, when I press the Play button on the
right pane the movie does not play. But when I drag n drop the clip from
Collections into the Timeline and press Play on Timeline, the movie plays in
the right pane.

2) I installed ACDSee (before installing Essentials Codec Pack). When
right-click on a media file (WMV, AVI) there will be a context menu allowing
me to play the file in a small window without opening Windows Media Player.
After installing Essentials Codec Pack I can no longer do that and instead
got this message:

The media file could not be played.
The necessary driver or codec may be missing.

The context menu item is still there, and Windows Media Player can play the
WMV/AVI files fine.

Q1: Is Essentials Codec Pack interfering with Windows Movie Maker in some
way? Anyone got same experience?

Q2: How about item (2), is the problem caused by the codec pack too?

Q3: If I want to uninstall the codec pack, will everything be back to normal
or is it irreversible (like installing DirectX, etc)?

FYI, I frequently update the computer via Windows Update and chosed to
accept all available updates everytime.

Any help appreciated. TIA.
