Hi. Ive just had to restore my pc to factory default with the backup disc I
made when I first recieved my Acer pc. The first thing I did was to update
Avg Virus and Spyware programs, and then ran Windows update for which I must
have downloaded 90 new updates. I don't understand enough about Windows to
pick and choose so Ive downloaded everything - both critical and optional.
Since installing all these updates, 10 folders have appeared in my external
hard drive. Inside these folders are applications and dll files, an example
of one of the folders is: 74fc87c3241e4fc604c6fe8514 (Main Folder) and inside
(1) update (application) (2) updspapi.dll and (3) wudfcustom.dll. Please can
you tell me if these are Windows update files and if yes, why are they being
downloaded to my external drive and not the main C drive of the pc. Would it
be safe to delete these files (whatever they are) or could I make them
'Hidden' so I don't accidentally delete them in the future?
Thanks

Re: Strange update destination

If the external HDD was connected to the machine when you Restored using the
back-up disk, it sounds like Windows (re)installed on the external HDD.
