Is there a way to determine if a software has been installed through an RDP
connection to the server versus logging onto the physical console?

Not an easy one that I know off.
You could try to establish the exact date the software was installed
(usually the creation date of the application's main folder), and
compare that with the Logon Events in EventViewer.
