Hello -
I have a W2K3 terminal server in a load balanced config. When my users end
their sessions the printers do not delete. There are no messages in the
event log with errors. The issue is when the printers in session xx don't
delete and another user logsin and is assigned the same session xx that user
gets both sets of printers. It just started happening within the past month.
The only changes in the month are windows updates. The only way I have
figured to get the printers to disappear is to delete them manually or reboot
the server but, this is not a good solution. I have tried to restart the
spool svr with no luck.
Thanks for any advice.

Re: Printers not deleting

Is this problem occurring when you connect to the same session only or even
when you log off and log back on?

Re: Printers not deleting

you would have to perform windows update on both server and the affected
client.

after that go to regedit -> HKEY LOCAL MACHINE ->SYSTEM ->
CurrentControlSet -> Control -> Print - Printers

delete all the subkeys (i.e. it will show the printer model and session
number) and then reboot the server.

have to ensure both the server and client computer is fully patched up.
please test again and let me know whether it works...it worked for mine.

Re: Printers not deleting

I found the issue. For some reason one of the users printers was not being
redirected on one print job. This was an HP LJ P5105 and was not purging the
print job when the client disconnected. The issue would occur when the user
would login to the same session or a different session.

To resolve the stuck print job I had to kick off the users on that session
and delete the printer, after the message 'deleting printer - error' I can
stop the printer spooler service and then restart the service to finally
remove the pritner.

Weird issue because I have other users using this printer and with no
issues. Also this issue was with ALL of the servers in the cluster, there
are four, and it is with only this one client.

Thanks for all of the suggestions!

Re: Printers not deleting

I have the same issue on my 5- 2003 TS farm also. Unfortunately, I have
hundreds of print drivers installed and can't seem to track down the
culprits. There are just too many different printers people have. A
customer recently complained about her print job ending up accross the
country. I opted to go with Server 2008, as this fixes this Terminal Server
problem, not to mention, the TS Easy Print driver. I'm ordering licenses
tomorrow morning.

RE: Printers not deleting

I have also had this problem sporadically, and like Marc below print jobs
have ended up on the wrong printer at the wrong location. I notice that even
after an individual has signed off the printer remains, and cannot be
deleted. There are no print jobs, so that's not the issue.

Anyone have any suggestions?

RE: Printers not deleting

This is caused usually from a print driver. What happens is US1 (user
session 1) has printer mapped, then logs off, printer does not get deleted.
After a bit a new user logs on getting session 1, and now has the old US1
printer, now the old US1 logs in and gets session 2. well now that left over
printer from US1 is "ready" and can be printed to from US1 to US2 location.
