I have a Win2k3 terminal server that periodically gives domain users
the message "RPC Server is unavailable" (local machine users can login
however). It's been doing this for a few years and we always just
rebooted it to fix the issue.
I don't know what the cause is, but I have an easier fix which I'd
like to put out here for any future victims of this issue:
Update the hosts file ("c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts") in
notepad.
You don't even need to change anything in it, just saving the file
causes windows to reset whatever it is that gets out of whack to cause
my RPC issue. I don't know why.
