I just bought a new HP m9100t with VHPx64. I'm happy with it so far. I
have a full retail license for Vista Ultimate and a technet
subscription allowed me to download Vista Ultimate SP1 x64.

I tried to upgrade the VHPx64 using SP1x64 but it wouldn't let me. It
said I could only upgrade SP1 to SP1. I used my retail Ultimate x64
DVD to upgrade the OEM VHP x64. There were no problems.

Is there any way to use the technet SP1 full install DVD to apply SP1
to the existing OEM install?

Re: Vista x64 SP1

Have you tried using just the SP1 x64 package, not the full
Vista x64 w/SP1 package?

No. Where would I find that?

Re: Vista x64 SP1

They are supposed to be on the 1st page when you log in to
TechNet, but there seems to be intermittent problems with
them showing up. I downloaded them a couple of weeks ago,
but I don't see the Top Downloads today.

Instead of see this in the gray box:

Top Subscriber Downloads
If you were a TechNet Plus Subscriber, you would be able to
initiate downloads of select products directly from here.

Not a TechNet Plus subscriber? Find out more.

you should see the links for the SP1 packages.

Unless they have been removed.

However, there remain driver issues for some users.

It will be available through WU sometime in the next few weeks. I suggest
that you simply wait.

I found it. I have a brand new computer so driver issues are unlikely
but I really don't want to screw it up before I even get to use it. I
will wait. I have lots of other stuff to do to make it usable.

Re: Vista x64 SP1

Well, Colin, your link does give visibility of the Top
Downloads after I login, but when I just start at the
TechNet page it's random for me. Wish I could understand
what the glitch is.

Re: Vista x64 SP1

I am not a TechNet subscriber so I don't know. SP1 was only up a short time
on WU (apparently by mistake). I upgraded through participation in the
Techbeta program so I don't know if it is currently available on TechNet or
was withdrawn again at the time it was withdrawn from WU. The hold has to
do with installation issues on some computers rather than SP1 itself. I
would just wait. It can't be much longer before it all gets squared away.

Re: Vista x64 SP1

Hello,

From what I gather, The Vista x64 SP1 was pulled for now because of a
security issue. All of the download pages on ms downloads all lead to a not
found error.

Re: Vista x64 SP1

It was not a security issue. It was a premature offering.

Re: Vista x64 SP1

xGamer:
Vista x64 SP1 wasn't pulled for security reasons, it was pulled due
to an installation conflict on some systems. I run the Vista Enterprise x64
version which is on the software assurance program. The updated version
which includes SP1 has been available for download for a few weeks. Have a
great day.

Re: Vista x64 SP1

I'm not sure what you mean by "pulled"? Windows Vista SP1 is not scheduled
to go onto MS Downloads or WU publicly until mid-March. It is available now
to MSDN and TechNet Plus subscribers, plus of course the OEMs have it to
test with and set up their custom images before it goes "live".

As for the 'install issue" being referred to, perhaps you mean the contents
of the Windows Vista team blog. I recommend reading:

and

Re: Vista x64 SP1

SP1 was available on WU for 1-2 days. I installed it from WU on 2/21 by
2/23 it had been pulled. Many want to know why.

Re: Vista x64 SP1

Chuck:
Thank you for the links giving an explanation. For me I rebuilt one
system with the SP1 disk without any problems and my other systems will wait
for WU. Have a great day.
