I have a 2003 R1 DC and a 2003 R2 Terminal Server joined to the domain but
only as a member. The Terminal Services License server is running on the DC.

Remote RDP client printers are not installing on the TS when a connection is
made for either administrators or normal users.

I can RDP to the DC and my local printers map back but when I RDP to the TS
they are not there.

All the correct drivers are installed on the TS, “connect client printers at
logon” is checked in Terminal Services Configuration on the TS and remote
clients, I get no errors in the System event log upon connecting and no
TS001, TS002,,, printer ports are created on the TS when I connect.

Again, when I RDP to the DC, my printers are mapped back properly and are
fully functional.

Thanks for any help.

Confirm with tscc.msc that you haven't disabled 'windows printer mapping'
for client sessions
RDP-Tcp properties -> 'Client settings'

Check with Device Manager that 'System Devices\Terminal Server Device
Redirector' is enabled

Check registry that fEnablePrintRDR doesn't exist and is set to 0. In that
case it will be disabled.
The registry value is located under
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\rdpwd

Re: RDP client Local printers do not install on 2003 TS

Hi Henrik,

Checked this and it is functioning > 'System Devices\Terminal Server Device
Redirector' is enabled.

This registry entry was not present > fEnablePrintRDR which is good. I then
added the entry with a value of 1, rebooted and received no success and have
now removed it with another reboot.

Re: RDP client Local printers do not install on 2003 TS

The fact that I have no TS001, TS002,,, printer ports under print server
properties really has my attention…

Re: RDP client Local printers do not install on 2003 TS

Thanks for trying to help, Henrik

The fix was restoring some Registry entries:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\BJ
Language Monitor]
"Driver"="cnbjmon.dll"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\Local
Port]
"Driver"="localspl.dll"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\Microsoft Document Imaging Writer Monitor]
"Driver"="mdimon.dll"

This value was missing on the Terminal Server>>
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\USB
Monitor]
"Driver"="usbmon.dll"

The entry was inadvertently removed by one of our techs a few weeks ago when
they were having print spooler crashes.
